HYGIENE

 HYGIENE

Definition:

Hygiene is the science and practice of maintaining good health by keeping ourselves and our environment clear in order to avoid diseases causing microorganisms that bring about illness.

AREAS OF HYGIENE

1.           PERSONAL HYGIENE (HYGIENE OF THE INDIVIDUAL)

- This include the cleaning of the different parts of the body.

- Clothing and beddings.

- Alcohol consumption.

- Cigarette smoking

- Drug consumption and drug abuse.

- Regular physical exercises

- Adequate rest and sleep.

- Good nutrition (eating balance diets)

2.   ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIEN:

This is the care of the environment and includes:

- Domestic hygiene:

This involves the keeping of our homes clean, proper cooking and storage of food, and protection of drinking water sources.

- Public or community hygiene:

This involves the care of the holding area in which people live. It includes the collection, and disposal of air-water, and land, and the quarantined (isolation of sick people and animals).

GOOD HYGIENE

Maintaining good hygiene keeps away micro organisms from our body and environment and promote a healthy life style. The various ways of maintaining good personal hygiene are known as the rules of hygiene.

RULES OF HYGIENE.

-Keeping out the body and environment clean in order to avoid microbes that transmit diseases.

- All bushes around our homes should be cleared to avoid the breading of insect vectors such as mosquitoes that transmit malaria and dangerous organisms such as snakes and scorpions that can kill or harm someone.

- All cans and containers that can keep water should be properly disposed of, in order to prevent mosquitoes from breading in them.

- Covering our mouths or Norse with a clean handkerchief when coughing or sneezing respectively in order to avoid the spread of pathogens through droplet infections.

- Covering all food to protect it from house fly and dust particles that may contain microbes that can contaminate the food.

- Properly washing our hands with clean water and soap before every meal and after using the toilet in order to avoid microbes.

- Cooking food in clean pots and serving it in clean dishes and plates to avoid infection .

- Keeping our hairs low and clean in order to look neat and to avoid the accumulation of dandruff that can attract pathogens like lice.

- brushing our teethes every morning and before going to bed at night so as to avoid the multiplication of lactic acid bacteria on food particles between the teethes leading to tooth decay.

- Trimming the finger and toe nails regularly in order to avoid the accumulation of dirt that attacks microbes.

- Bathing at least once a day with clean water and soap so as to keep away  microbes from the body that can cause infection.

- Keeping all latrines clean to avoid insects like house fly, cockroaches etc that can spread infection .

- Keeping our houses clean by sweeping them, removing all cob weps on the walls and ceiling of the house. Keeping the flow clean and all cup boards and tables clean, in order to void micro organisms from living in them.

- Keeping our cloths and beddings clean and changing them frequently in order to avoid infection.

- Eating a balance diet in order to stay healthy.

- Drinking clean and purified water to keep the body work efficiently and to remove waste products from the body.

- Keeping our bath-rooms and Kitchens clean by washing them regularly with detergents in order to avoid the spread of microbes.

People who do not bath regularly, wear dirty cloths or live in dirty homes have poor personal hygiene. They therefore have a much greater risk of getting ill.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WHITE BLOOD CELLS AND RED BLOOD CELLS

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WHITE BLOOD CELLS AND RED BLOOD CELLS RED BLOOD CELLS  WHITE BLOOD CELLS    1.   Biconcave disc shape Irregular in shape   2. Hemoglobin present. Hemoglobin absent   3. No nucleus in matured red blood cells    Nucleus present   4. smaller in size and more numerous larger larger Larger in size and fewer in number   5. Transport oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissue to the lungs.   Defends the body against infection and disease    6. Only one type.   Many types

MOLE CONCEPT

THE MOLE CONCEPT INTRODUCTION   In ordinary life items are counted using a named collection of them or counting units. For example, farmers eggs in dozens (12), shop keepers sell sheets of papers in reams (500 papers), Elementary chemical particles (atoms, ions, molecules, electrons, etc)are very small.  Chemist therefore, for convenient reasons count them by weighing a collection of them. The counting unit in chemistry is called THE MOLE (6.02X1023particles). The number of atoms in exactly 12 grams of carbon-12 isotope is chosen as the standard.  What is a mole? The mole of a substance is the amount of substance that contains the same number of elementary particles which are (atoms, ions, molecules) as there are in exactly 12 grams of carbon-12 isotope.  Mole=mass/molar mass In the definition of mole above,  we see that: 1 mole of hydrogen atoms, H, contains 6.02x1023 hydrogen atoms, H. 1 mole of oxygen molecule, O2 , contains 6.02x1023 oxygen mole...
